The Taiwan Yunus Foundation, established in 2006, is a non-profit organization authorized by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus. Professor Yunus founded Grameen Bank (Bank for the Poor) to help Bangladeshi women start businesses and alleviate poverty. Therefore, the Taiwan Yunus Foundation aims to develop the Grameen model in Taiwan, assisting economically disadvantaged individuals in establishing micro-enterprises through education to achieve economic self-dependance. It actively promotes social enterprises and the three-zero sustainability goals (zero net carbon emissions, zero poverty, zero unemployment). The foundation has established Yunus Social Business Centers at major universities across Taiwan, aiming to advocate Professor Yunus's ideas throughout campus. Through sustainable advocacy and youth education, it seeks to expand its social influence and contribute to a more sustainable future in Taiwan and the world.
The name "CommonWealth" stems from the traditional Chinese concept of "the world belongs to everyone," symbolizing the aspiration and pursuit of a better society. In 1981, CommonWealth Magazine was founded. Since then, Taiwan has had a warm and calm voice. At that time, the United States had already severed diplomatic ties with the Republic of China for two years, and the latter was then isolated and marginalized internationally, while experiencing internal unrest.
With a positive, forward-looking, and global perspective, CommonWealth Magazine aims to help Taiwan find its place in the world's progress, guide businesses in coping with political and economic changes, bridge communication between leaders and the middle class, and provide independent news, perspectives, and information for readers in Taiwan and the Chinese-speaking world.
For over 40 years, CommonWealth has been dedicated to the pursuit of a better and fairer society. Our concerns have expanded from national and social issues to individual physical and mental health. Today, the group has diversified, with subsidiaries including "CommonWealth Learning," "CommonWealth Magazine Publishing," "CommonHealth Magazine," "CommonWealth Education Media and Publishing," and the "CommonWealth Magazine Education Foundation." These subsidiaries operate in fields such as financial management, professional learning, financial publishing, healthy living, parenting education, and rural area reading education, making the group a media conglomerate with significant positive influence.
